Terms of Service
Last updated: 1 June 2026
These terms govern your access to and use of the Scorlar platform. Please read them carefully before registering.
Acceptance
By creating an account or using the Scorlar platform ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you are accepting on behalf of a school or organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not access or use the Service.
Eligibility
The Service is available to schools, teachers, pre-tertiary students, and tertiary (university and polytechnic) students.
School accounts must be created by an authorised school administrator aged 18 or over. Pre-tertiary student accounts are managed under a school account. For students under 18, the school is responsible for obtaining parental or guardian consent before activating the student's account. By activating a student account, the school confirms that the required consent has been obtained.
Tertiary student accounts may be self-registered by individuals aged 18 or over who are enrolled in a Ghanaian university, polytechnic, or equivalent higher education institution. By self-registering, you confirm that you are 18 or older and that the information you provide is accurate.
Account Responsibilities
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must notify us immediately at hello@scorlar.com if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account.
Each account is for a single user. Account sharing is not permitted. School administrators must create individual accounts for each teacher and student.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Scorlar is not liable for losses resulting from unauthorised use of your account where you have failed to maintain adequate credential security.
Subscriptions & Payment
Access to premium features requires an active paid subscription. Subscriptions are billed on a monthly or annual basis as selected at checkout. Payments are processed by Paystack in Ghanaian cedis (GHS).
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date. You may cancel at any time through your school account settings.
Upon cancellation or non-payment, your account enters a grace period of up to 30 days during which you retain read access to your data. After the grace period, access to premium features is suspended.
All fees are non-refundable except where required by law or at our sole discretion. If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us within 14 days of the transaction at hello@scorlar.com.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any Ghanaian laws
- Share your account credentials or allow others to access your account
- Attempt to scrape, copy, or reproduce curriculum content or AI-generated outputs at scale
- Interfere with or disrupt the platform's infrastructure or security systems
- Upload or transmit malicious code, viruses, or harmful content
- Impersonate another person or entity
- Misuse the AI tools to generate content that is harmful, deceptive, or inappropriate for an educational setting
- Circumvent subscription limitations or access controls
Scorlar reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules without prior notice.
AI-Generated Content
Scorlar uses AI to generate lesson plans, quiz questions, study summaries, exam-practice questions (MCQ and short-answer), topic-level feedback and analysis, and other educational content. For pre-tertiary users, this content is aligned to the Ghana Education Service curriculum. For tertiary users, AI-generated exam questions are grounded in course documents you upload and general academic knowledge.
AI-generated content is a study and teaching aid, not a substitute for professional teacher judgement or authoritative academic sources. Teachers must review all AI-generated lesson plans and assessments before use. Tertiary students should verify AI-generated exam questions and answers against their official course materials.
Scorlar does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of any AI-generated content for any specific teaching or examination context. We are not liable for outcomes arising from reliance on AI-generated content without appropriate review.
User-Uploaded Materials
Tertiary users may upload course documents — such as lecture slides, textbook chapters, syllabi, and study notes — to enhance AI-generated content for their courses. By uploading a document you confirm that:
- You own the document or have obtained sufficient rights to upload it for personal academic use
- The document does not contain material that infringes third-party intellectual property rights beyond what is permitted under Ghanaian fair-use provisions for educational purposes
- The document does not contain harmful, unlawful, or inappropriate content
Uploaded documents are stored securely and processed solely to provide you with AI-assisted study features (text extraction, embedding, and retrieval). They are not shared with other users or used to train AI models.
You may delete an uploaded document at any time from within the platform. Scorlar will permanently delete the file and all derived data (extracted text, embeddings) within a reasonable period after deletion. Documents are also deleted when your account is closed.
Scorlar is not liable for copyright infringement arising from documents you upload. You indemnify Scorlar against any claims resulting from your uploaded content.
Intellectual Property
The Scorlar platform, including its design, software, pre-loaded curriculum data, and AI infrastructure, is owned by Scorlar Education Labs and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Content you create or upload on the platform — such as lesson plans authored by you, teacher notes, custom quiz questions, and course documents uploaded by tertiary students — remains your intellectual property. By storing this content on Scorlar, you grant us a limited licence to host, display, and process it solely for the purpose of delivering the Service to you.
You may not reproduce, redistribute, or commercialise any part of the Scorlar platform or its pre-loaded curriculum content without prior written consent.
Termination & Suspension
You may close your account at any time by contacting us at hello@scorlar.com. School administrators may also delete their school account from the account settings.
We may suspend or terminate your account immediately, without notice, if you breach these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or if required by law.
Upon termination, your access to the Service ceases. Data may be retained for up to 30 days and then deleted, unless we are required to retain it longer by law.
Liability & Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability.
To the extent permitted by Ghanaian law, Scorlar Education Labs shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, including loss of data, educational outcomes, or business interruption.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the three months preceding the claim.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Ghana. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ghana.
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a prominent notice on the platform at least 14 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
We encourage you to review these Terms periodically. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
